Roley Poley Sleeping Baby!

Sunday, February 24, 2008

So, two big updates on the Ethan front… first, on Thursday of this week Ethan officially mastered the roll over from back to front. It's pretty wild says Leann…. On Tuesday he was clueless (he had rolled over twice to date but only when he was angry), we worked with him on Tuesday night but couldn't seem to get the concept that he needed to first put his arm above his head so it didn't get in his way. We helped him roll over several times by putting his arm up for him. Then on Thursday night when Leann sat down to practice again and video tape him he quickly put his arm up and boom… he rolled over, just like that! Once he had the technique down he was unstoppable! It's going to be hard getting him to stay on his tummy now! We've got some great video footage of Ethan rolling over that I'll post here shortly.

On the second front Ethan has given daddy, and most importantly, Mommy two great nights of sleep! On Friday night (exactly one week after we put him up in his own room), Ethan slept through the night for the first time! Leann fed him last at 11:30pm and aside from a giggling dragon toy that went off at 5am on it's own in his room all remained quiet on the baby monitor! In fact Ethan managed to sleep in until 7:30am on Saturday morning…. a full 8 hours! We had a big day yesterday going to a parade and then shopping with Leann and Diana, followed by a dinner and Movie at Dad's house. We got him home and into his own bed at 11pm and again he slept until 7am this morning!

So that's the skinny for now. Today Dad and Diana came down to watch him so that we could spend some time doing taxes and taking care of some things around the house. Look for pictures and video again here soon!

Homey

Ethan went to the doctor this week and found out he has ring worm on
the back of his head. We don't know where it came from, but it is
only contageous by skin to skin contact. I am happy to report that
none of us have it. We have been touching and wondering about it for
the last week or two. Hopefully it will go away in the next couple of
weeks. He is not contageous if he is wearing a hat, so we had to dig
through the drawers to find some. He doesn't seem to mind wearing it.

One year ago today...

I have fun writing these one year ago today pieces... it helps me to remember all the good times I've had over the last year. On this day 1 year ago, I was celebrating Valentines day with some great family that flew in all the way from Michigan to visit with us! In attendance were my two nieces, my incredible older brother, his wonderful wife Judy, my amazing mother, and of course my beautiful wife Leann. Leann was just one month along with little Ethan. We spent the morning hanging out at home, probably watching TV and eating eggs, bacon, fruit, sausage, and probably tons of other great food that my mom and brother cooked up.... I think every day I woke up to great food being cooked in the Kitchen while they were here! Around 3pm we all piled into the van that we had rented and headed off to South Mountain to do an afternoon hike. It took us a while to find the trail head but eventually we did. We headed off on what we thought was a 2 mile loop that went up the mountain... but after about an hour and a half and the sun starting to set behind the mountain we were getting nervous as the little ones were with us and it was starting to get a bit chilli. We then realized that the trail was 2 miles to the top and then we had to turn around. It was getting close to sunset so Bryan and I sent the girls and the kids the next 100 yards on their own up to the main road while we booked it back down to the van so that we could drive up and pick them up (later a drinking Bryan would make fun of me for telling him to be careful and go slow so as not to twist his ankle). The hike itself was amazing! Once we picked the girls up with the van we headed to the top of south mountain and looked out over the entire valley! There were lots of couples up there, since it was valentines day), but it was still fun... the views were amazing as were the pictures we took from up there.

After the hike we headed home and made reservations at Ichi-Bon's and Mom watched the girls for us while we headed off to dinner. We had a great dinner with Bryan and Judy, we laughed a lot and drank too much but a good time was had by all. Looking back it was soooo nice of my mom to let us go out while she wathed the girls.... it really allowed us to spend some quality time with Bryan and Judy. When we got back we had sticky hearts all over our mirrors in our bathroom that the girls put up! Those hearts lasted until about a month ago when I finally took them down :)

As for what we are doing this year.... well... we have little Ethan now... so we are ordering a Pizza and hanging out at home with the inLAws... tomorrow's date nite for us!

Good Times...

So, we've been having lots of fun with Ethan as of late (actually... he's always been fun). He's starting to roll over now. He had is first official roll over a few weeks back and though Momma has been trying she's not been able to catch another on camera. Ethan loves to grab at things now. He is much more articulate with his left hand than his right. He has a lot of dexterity with his left hand but his right hand he just kind of swings around (he got me right in the eye this morning!). He really likes to stand up... if you are playing with him he wants to be stood up and push his feet down. He can't by any means stand on his own but he likes practicing. He started playing with his feet a couple weeks ago and now he will grab his feet and roll to his side in his bed. He likes to grab his feet any chance he gets. He as started drooling everywhere. It is time to get out the bibs to catch the drool. We also finally put together his rain forest jumperoo.... which is a toy that he sits in and it swivels around and he can bounce up and down and play with a bunch of toys that are attached to it. He loves it! He spent almost 2 hours in it this morning. We will put some pictures out here of him in it when we get a chance to snap a few.
Other than that not a ton to report... Ethan is all smiles for now... even though he is getting over numerous colds and what not. Last week he visited with lots of family and friends at Uncle John's house for the superbowl and Ethan got passed from woman to woman... he was all smiles and grins... he was a big het! Anywho, that's all for today. Until next time.

Happy doggers!

I've got your nose!

Ethan has started grabbing at your nose and mouth when you are holding
him. He is curious about everything lately. He knows the nose game
and he is only 4 months old.
