Bouncing Baby... Laughing Grandma!

A trying week….

Wow, this has been one of those weeks! Ethan had been fussy all weekend but mom took care of things because Dad was down and out with the flu. Then on Monday when Dad started feeling better Ethan's teething kicked into high gear. He really started fussing a lot and Leann called the doctor's office. They told him that if he doesn't respond well to baby Tylenol on the gums and/or we see him rubbing an ear a lot to bring him in as it may be an ear infection. By the time Wednesday rolled around the Tylenol on the gums thing was pretty ineffective and he started to get a persistent fever. Off to the doctor's office we went! After some serous crying as the doctor was getting mass amounts of wax out of his ears she deemed the issue an ear ache indeed. On Thursday night we began giving him his prescribed dosage of Amoxicillin… which is bright pink and seems to be an exceedingly large amount for his tiny mouth. Needless to say Ethan is not a fan of Amoxicillin… and now I understand why my mom use to always claim I was allergic to it when the doctors suggested it :). Anywho, the crazytrain at work wasn't stopping for either of us as we both had tons of stuff to do at work as well as a little emergency / crisis on Pop's website for his business that I was helping to resolve Monday through Wednesday. Thankfully for me Leann volunteered to stay at home with Ethan for two days and work from home while he pushed through his fever. I was very thankful because it seemed like I had a barrage of non stop face to face meetings that I was required to be in. By the time Friday rolled around we were both exhausted… I was working late at night on block watch and HOA stuff as well as work stuff for my face to face meetings. Ethan was only sleeping 2 or maybe 3 hours at a time and Leann was taking on the brunt of it (meaning sleep deprivation).
To top things off the pink die from Ethan's Amoxicillin (remember I mentioned that it was bright pink above) seemed to move through his body and directly to his hiney and turned it bright red! That's right… by Friday Ethan had a raging diaper rash and now wanted to cry in both a sitting and standing position! Changing time is no longer fun for him… he's in a ton of pain when we wipe his bottom and he lets us know it! Luckily Leann is a superhero in the field of dealing with unhappy baby's and their sleepy fathers. She has been doing so awesome taking care of him as well as me without getting sick (thank goodness). I don't know how she does it… but I'm so thankful for her strength and ability in this area!

We are looking forward to a visit from Granny Sweetpea in a little over a week. Ethan has been talking to us a lot lately and I image that he's telling us how excited he is as asking us how much longer till we granny gets here. To which we reply "4 more miles" :)

Anywho, that's the skinny for now.
Until next time, take care!

Rocking Momma!

So Leann received a copy of Guitar Hero 3 for Christmas and has since spent at least 6 hours rocking out on the guitar playing that game. I think she likes it... and I can safely say that Ethan did a fantastic job of picking out a Christmas present for his mommy!

Ethan's First Bath...

Scrub-a-dub-dub, it's Ethan in his tub!

Baby Ethan had his first real bath a couple of days ago and he loved it! The water was just the right temperature and he was half way submerged in this cool little baby tub we picked up at Target. It has a stretchy net that lets him be halfway submerged when you fill it up with water. We also have a little rubber ducky that floats in the water and tells us the temperature to make sure he doesn't get burned. Little Ethan was very calm and loved getting bathed.

Ethan's First Halloween

We had a great one! I worked all day on setting up the front of the house and will post more pictures soon. I had some teenage girls pose with a digital camera they had with some of our decorations and claim very enthusiastically that the pictures were going up on myspace right away. I also had a floating head in a globe down by the street and I sat back in the corner of the patio wearing all black. I had a wireless microphone hooked up the the floating head and when I talked through the microphone my voice would come out of his mouth and his head would bob around and his eyes would glow! People loved that thing. I freaked a couple of parents out I think. :) I also had a ground fog machine that went off automatically every 2 minutes. I think we had the best house in the neighborhood!

After we brought all the stuff in at 9pm I we put Ethan in his halloween outfits (yes, we had more than one) and took some great pictures!

Confessions of a Rookie Dad....

So I thought I would post this note that I sent myself from my iPhone the night before we left the hospital. It's a pretty funny story and had the nurses the next morning in stitches from laughing so hard at what had happened. I'm going to put this one in his baby book. Check it out and let me know what you think!

Baby notes
Holy crap - literary!
Wow, so the veteran nurse just left the room at midnight after there was a very audible poop. She placed the baby on Leann's chest and said something like "he may need to be changed" :) and then quickly exited the room.

Well mom quickly turned hat responsibility to me. So I took on the task by placing him on the end of Leann's bed and taking him out of not one but two swaddle blankets that he was in (he was cold so we used two blankets - this important later). So now Ethan is on top of his two receiving blankets and at the bottom of moms bed. I begin to change the diaper, by taking off the old one that i knew was soiled -
rookie mistake number one - I didn't get the other diaper ready. So here I am opening the diaper when I realize that, good lord, this is the poop of the century! I see what appears to be black lava flowing
from the rear of the cutest little tush you have eve seen! At this point I'm a bit she'll shocked, you know... A bit of deer in the headlights look from me. There is so much black lava everywhere that
I don't know where to start wiping. I take clean diaper number one (on yes there will be more than one clean diaper in this story) and place it under Ethan placing the lava filled diaper number one on the
floor. I begin to wipe down said lava flowing bum when I realize that I will need to get another diaper because clean diaper Buber one has now become lava filled diaper number two/changing mat. I turn around to get diaper number two and release Ethan's legs - rookie mistake number two. I turn back around to find his heel now covered in black lava! So I ask Leann, whom up until this point has been a passive observer, to get in the game and grab a leg while I wrangle the poop covered leg and wipe it down. Finally I get the poop off of little Ethan's heel and I turn around to throw the wide on top of the diaper which is on the ground when I turn back around I'm stunned to see a jet of liquid flying just past my face and over my left shoulder…. Apparently my son also had to pee… a lot! I grab the only other thing I have in my hand (a cold wet wipe) and proceed to cover his peeper. Being that the device I choose to cover it was both cold and wet scared him a bit I think and really helped move along the emptying of the bladder! Remember how I said that he was swaddled in two blankets? Well Mr. Ethan pee'd so much that it soaked through not one, but both of the blankets that he was swaddled in… along with Leann's top blanket on her bed, her sheet, and her fitted sheet… right down to the plastic covered mattress of the bed she was sleeping in! Leann and I had to then push the little emergency button on her bedside controller to call in the nurses…. Yup, nurses plural… two of them had to come in and completely strip the bed and remake it…. At 1am!
